Wind Minds Joint Venture develops near-shore wind farms near Jeju Island
In November 2015 Wind Minds entered a Joint Venture with Korean companies DoArm Engineering and Heachun. This Joint Venture develops two near-shore wind farms close to Jeju Island. Jeju Island is located south of the Korean main land and is home to Koreans first near shore ‘Tamra’ wind farm.
The Joint Venture develops the Sin Chang and GwiDeok wind farms, both situated approximately 1 kilometre of the northwest coast of Jeju Island. Both projects consist of a first phase of 20 wind turbines, resulting in two 100 MW wind farms. The water depth increases quickly when going further from shore and ranges between 20 and 50 meters.
Wind Minds helps the Joint Venture in selecting the optimal park layout and wind turbine-foundation combination. Wind Minds also determines the most suitable techniques for the installation process of the wind farms. The rapidly increasing water depth and rocky seabed ask for smart engineering solutions. The coming months will be dedicated to a detailed technical feasibility study, the Environmental Impact Assessment and Permit Application for both wind farms.
